MSC Initiative

Privacy by design.

MSC avoids unnecessary tracking. The quiz stores only the information needed to run, recover and mark an attempt, and named student results are not designed for public display.

Quiz information

When a live MSC quiz is opened, the quiz system can store the student's name, year group, tutor group, quiz/version, responses, review flags, attempt timestamps, marking information and technical audit events needed to administer the attempt.

The student browser also keeps a temporary local copy of the active attempt, a private resume token and recent answer state. This is used so a refresh or short connection interruption does not immediately lose work. Once the system has confirmed that an attempt is finished and all answers are synchronised, the local recovery copy is cleared automatically. The student can also choose “Finish on this device”. An interrupted, unsynchronised attempt may still remain in the browser until it can be resolved or manually cleared; shared computers should therefore be checked before another student uses them. The server record remains available to authorised staff.

What the site does not need

  • The quiz start form does not require a student email address.
  • The site does not add advertising trackers.
  • Named student quiz scores are not intended for public leaderboards.
  • Correct answers and marking keys are not sent to the browser while a quiz is in progress.

Before live student collection

The participating school/MSC deployment must publish the appropriate retention period, data-controller/contact information and any school-specific privacy wording before a real quiz is opened to students. This project has no approved published question bank, so its public quiz engine cannot currently start a live assessment.
